Welcome to the Rhodes to Independence
Creating Pathways to Work website. This website has been
established as a central location of information and resources
to assist job seekers with disabilities, employers who are
committed to hiring people with disabilities and anyone
interested in disability information and resources.
Over the past six years, a group of
dedicated representatives from public and private sectors,
consumers, employers, state departments and legislators have
collaborated as part of the Rhodes to Independence initiative to
make significant progress toward supporting people with
disabilities in securing and sustaining competitive employment
in integrated settings.
The initial scope of Rhodes' activities was
to successfully modify Rhode Island's health care delivery
system to meet the needs of people with disabilities who want to
work (especially focusing on Medicaid eligibility). Our current
efforts are much broader and include a wide array of
partnerships, shared initiatives and research endeavors that
will ultimately result in the development of a comprehensive
employment system for Rhode Islanders with disabilities. The
Sherlock Plan – Rhode Island's Medicaid Buy-In – was launched on
January 1, 2006 and is an option for eligible workers with
disabilities who have incomes up to $50,000 to buy-into Medicaid
coverage. Our reconstructed and vibrant website has a wealth of
information and links that reflect Rhode's extensive scope of
activities, accomplishments and associations.
