Communities Served: Woonsocket , Cumberland , Lincoln , North Smithfield , and Burrillville.

Program Description: A program for 15 youth ages 16-21 who are pregnant or parenting teens from northern RI. The program begins in July 2003 with 1-year of follow up. Provides GED/GED prep, work readiness, life skills, community service, internships, short term work experience, mentoring, and leadership development. Also includes job placement and retention activities, and case management. Agency Partners include the Project RIRAL, Woonsocket YWCA, Connecting Children & Families, and the Blackstone Valley Community Action Program.

Program Description: A "Learn to Earn" program for 24 youth ages 16-21 from East Providence . The program begins in July 2003 with 1-year of follow up. Provides academics, GED/remediation, tutoring, work readiness, work experience, internships, job shadowing, and leadership development. Also includes job placement and retention activities, and case management. Agency Partner is the East Providence School Department.

Program Description: A "Career Tracks" program for 20 youth ages 16-21 from Washington County , beginning in July 2003 with 1 year of follow up. The program includes basic academic skills, pre-GED, ESL, work readiness, occupational skills development, work experience, job shadowing, internships, leadership development, life skills workshops, community service, mentoring, and case management. Agency Partners include McKay Associates, University of RI (Project LEAP), Southern RI Collaborative, Seabee Theatre, North Kingstown/Narragansett/ Charlestown Chambers of Commerce, Washington County Adult Learning Center, South County Habitat for Humanity, Corkery House & Caritas House, SENESCO, Salve Regina University School of Social Work, Salve Regina University Holistic Counseling Program, DCYF/Juvenile Probation, Spectrum Health System, Community Mediation Center of RI, and the RI Blood Center, Daniel Borsutzky, Isabel Storey, and Bustillo Concrete Company.

Also includes job placement and retention activities, and case management. Agency Partners include URI Talent Development and the Elizabeth Buffam Chace House.

Program Description: A program for 25 youth ages 14-18 from Pawtucket and Central Falls . Provides year-long activities beginning in July 2003 with 1-year of follow up. The program includes project-based learning activities at Tolman and Central Falls High Schools for 6 weeks during the summer. School year activities include: academic services, work experience activities, tutoring, leadership development opportunities. Also includes placement and retention services. Agency Partners include Central Falls School Department, Central Falls High School , Pawtucket School Department, and Tolman High School .

Summer activities include: work experience, academics, and leadership development. School year activities include: academic services, computer based learning, work experience, leadership development, and community service. Also includes job placement and retention, and case management. Agency Partners include Woonsocket Housing Authority, Connecting for Children and Families, Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket Neighborhood Development Corporation, RI Small Business Development Center/Bryant College, and the Blackstone Boys & Girls Club.

Program Description: An "About Face" program for 30 youth ages 14-18 from Newport . Program provides year-long activities beginning in July 2003 with 1-year of follow up. Program includes 3- 8 week segments starting in the summer focusing on academic services, tutoring, computer based learning, work readiness, work experience, occupational skills training, the "Breathe Easy" smoking prevention program, and leadership development. Also includes job placement and retention, and case management. Agency Partner is The Paxen Group.

Program Description: A program for 12 youth ages 14-18 from communities in the East Bay and West Bay areas who are in the care of DCYF or foster care. Program provides year-long activities beginning in July 2003 with 1-year of follow up. Program includes academic services, work experience, life skills, mentoring, anger management, and leadership development. Also includes job placement and retention, and case management. Agency Partners include RI DCYF Independent Living Program, Chafee Life Skills Center/RI Counsel on Residential Programs for Children & Youth, RI Foster Parents Association, and Career Coach of NE, Inc.

Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston
Programs of 2003 offered:

Comprehensive Community Action Program in Cranston which serves 10 out-of-school younger youth (16 - 18). The program includes academic remediation, world of work skills training, mentoring, tutoring, job placement, case management, supportive services and 12-month follow-up services.
 

Rhode Island Central Directory for Nurses is a similar program for 28 younger out-of-school youth and is located in Providence.
 

Whitmarsh House is an in-school program for 10 youth. The program includes academic remediation, career guidance, supportive services, leadership development, tutoring and follow-up services.
 

John Hope Settlement House is an in-school program for 25 youth who will be entering the 12th grade in September 2004. It includes similar services as those at Whitmarsh House.
